A One-Time Assistant To Auguste Rodin, Pompon First Showed This Charming White Polar Bear Figure In Plaster At The Paris Salon D’Automne In 1922, Where It Was A Critical Success. Its Great Popularity Led To Its Production In A Variety Of Sizes And Mediums, Including Plaster, Porcelain, And Marble—Even A Large Stone Version Commissioned By The French Government In 1927.
